About
I live and work as an artist in Toronto, but I was born in Belgrade. My artistic practice is a visual depiction of the diasporic affect with a focus on inter-subjectivity; the shared transience in a lived, human experience.
“You are a castle, neither in the sky, nor on the ground.”
-Serbian fable
To adapt, we must navigate between the limitations of imposed cultural standards and what others define as tangible. My art work employs transient objects, lost or abandoned, which become the subject and metaphor for diasporic themes and re-invented narratives.
Overall, my pieces evoke a form of uncomfortable nostalgia – a dreamlike state, where human forms become one and separate, depicting the surrealism of the human condition. My work is made within the realm of installation, oil painting, canvas drawings, found objects and wood panel. I also apply my process in other fields such as silver work, fashion, and ceramics.
